Crohn’s & Colitis Congress: Vision & Goals

The Crohn’s & Colitis Congress®, a collaborative effort between the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation and the American Gastroenterological Association Institute, aims to advance patient-centric care in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Our mission is to foster a multidisciplinary approach, promoting knowledge exchange, innovative research, and best practices to enhance IBD management and patient outcomes.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Executive Committee Co-Chairs

Insight & Evaluation

  • Leverage prior year’s evaluation and provide insights on emerging trends in IBD treatment and care.
  • Gather insights from healthcare professionals and researchers to inform Congress activities and program.
  • Recognize and incorporate diverse patient needs and perspectives in program content development.

Strategic Guidance

  • Advise Foundation and AGA team on improvements to Congress activities, considering the evolving landscape of IBD care. Offer strategic guidance on adapting Congress formats and content to meet changing needs.
  • Provide oversight on scientific and practical aspects of Congress programming.

Program Development

  • Oversee the development of Congress tracks and sessions, ensuring relevance and scientific rigor.
  • Curate a balanced and comprehensive agenda, encompassing key aspects of IBD management and research
  • that includes a broad spectrum of the community.
  • Support and facilitate networking opportunities and interactive sessions to enhance participant engagement.

Communication & Coordination

  • Effectively communicate priorities, timelines and deadlines to Organizing Committee, invited speakers and panelists.
  • Ensure that Congress’ activities reflect the collective interests and expertise of the IBD community.
  • Active promotion of the Congress on personal social media channels, to fellows, colleagues at home institutions or office.
  • Attendance at the Congress including receptions and networking events.

Responsibilities of the Crohn’s & Colitis Organizing Committee

Strategic Guidance

  • Provide insights considering future trends and logistical aspects.
  • Aid in identifying potential areas for innovation in Congress programming.

 

Content Creation & Oversight

  • Collaboratively select and review content for Congress sessions, including speaker recommendations and abstract submissions.
    • Assist in speakers and panelist outreach as requested by Foundation and AGA staff.
  • Ensure that the scientific program aligns with the evolving landscape on how we approach IBD and the different research areas.
  • Review submitted abstracts and assign scores in pairs, as outlined by the Co-Chairs for both clinical and basic science categories.
    • In cases where scoring discrepancies arise; the Clinical or Basic Science Chairs will provide the final determination to ensure consistency and fairness in the review process.
    • This structured process ensures that every abstract is evaluated with fairness and consistency, reflecting the scientific rigor and multidisciplinary vision of the Congress.
